Yes as billselak said, you can have a password set for each ATV. Avoiding them to be "silly buggers' would be a class management item just like any other. With the announcement of a new ATV tomorrow (or today depending on you reading this) these can change. Mirroring in Airplay may have additional features and/or settings. http://goo.gl/GtoAJ

Re: AppleTV in the Classroom

Each atv can be named. You can also require a password to be able to use AirPlay.
A new atv might be announced tomorrow...

Re: AppleTV in the Classroom

I'm looking into buying some Apple TV boxes for my department and wondered if you could answer a couple of questions that I had about their use:

Firstly do you have more than one ATVs in operation on the same network? I want the kids to be able to show our class what they're doing, but not for them to mess around with my colleagues' ATVs in the adjacent rooms. I borrowed an ATV from one of my students yesterday to try it out & it seemed to just be a matter of one iPad selecting the mirror to bump the current user off. This could be a problem if the kids want to play silly buggers. Do you need separate networks for each classroom? This leads to the second question: Is there any way to control the access to the ATV?Can I lock it to my iPad (or Mac with Mountain Lion) so that I can restrict access? Maybe a password system or controlling software?

If you or any others reading this could share any practical experience with their usage I would be very grateful.

Re: AppleTV in the Classroom

Thanks for the mention! Mountain Lion is really going to take this device to the next level! Is it also worth noting the ability to pull in Netflix documentaries and other internet content such as flickr.

Re: AppleTV in the Classroom

Yes, my issue was signal strength in my class. This maybe a solution for you. Making a Mac an access point. Here is a link that describes that : https://discussions.apple.com/.... It has helped in my room. This maybe an option for you. Your IT people can set this up if they are willing. My guys did.

Unfortunately, AppleTV does not currently work with a network set up with "enterprise security." I will be sharing this page with my IT, as it illustrates some of the uses I would employ.

Re: AppleTV in the Classroom

I am already excited for Mountain Lion also. Being mobile within a classroom with either a laptop or mobile device will not inhibit sharing and progress by eliminating the download and wire plugins. Thanks for the mention and comment.

I think you know this, but Jessica finished her degree online with The University of Phoenix. She worled hard, studied hard, made great friends and loved it. The online resources she had were incredible. She used online textbooks and some she could print. I came up to our office yesterday and Owen was playing an Educational Game on our computer---He's in 4th grade this year.

Re: Welcome to My PLE!

Kimmie,

I'm commenting on behalf of Symbaloo. It's amazing how many people have written about this video. I think it's brilliant and really showing how a PLE is a great tool for students. We are working with teachers to develop an EDU version would you be interested in participating and giving us feedback?

Kind regards,

You have lots of great ideas for its uses in the classroom and for students. How would it look for kindergarten? Do you think it would have an app similar to Kid Pix? That would be awesome.

Re: Timetoast – A Timeline Generator

Wow, I am the first commentor!
Dear Mr. Selak,
I truely enjoye reading your post along with all your websites ( I cannot count your websites ^ ^* ). Your information makes me upgrade in educational technology. At this time, I understand easily how to use for students practically Web service such as timeline. I like Timeline Generator as you recommended because this is very useful in all subjects. I think that it is better for students to visualize with interactivity like your example. Moreover, I feel always you are a good teacher whenever I am in the class with you. I have learned that American teachers including you do their best to make the important connections with students needed in order for them to be successful in their learning. I would believe that American students that are connected with their teachers are more engaged and learn better. If I work for Korean students, I will remember your passion and endeavor and I will do that like you. Thank you.

Re: Prezi Presentation Overview

Prezi does seem like a fantastic presentation tool. It's interesting that the Twitter founder is a "consultant"... that makes me think that Prezi is going to become a BIG thing. Personally, I think that Prezi is going to kill the boring PowerPoint presentations, and it will give Keynote a run for its money. Eventually, tools like Prezi will become the standard.

Re: Wikispaces in the Classroom

Wow, Jason, it's amazing all the things you are doing with your students with the use of technology.
You are indeed brave to venture off into the world of wikispaces in the classroom. I commend you for giving it a go and making it work. id like to hear your success and failures of these attempts.
